The fifth year of World Tennis Day will take place on March 6, 2017 and will be highlighted by the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square garden. The 10th annual evening of tennis at “the World’s Most Famous Arena” will include.
World Tennis Day was launched by StarGames on March 4, 2013 with the goal of promoting the sport of tennis and increasing tennis participation among young players around the globe. Developed out of the success of the BNP Paribas Showdown in New York and Tennis Night in America, the initiative has garnered tremendous support since its announcement in November 2012.
Th inaugural World Tennis Day centered around two high-profile events – the BNP Paribas Showdown in both New York and Hong Kong. Both of these events featured current and former professionals competing, along with junior tennis demonstrations. World Tennis Day was also highlighted by grassroots initiative around the world. In 2013, World Tennis Day activities took place in 58 countries..
In 2014, high-profile special events were again held in New York and Hong Kong, while an additional event was held in London. Each Showdown featured current or former professionals, all of whom have either been ranked No. 1 in the world or reached a Grand Slam final, if not both. StarGames included some of the most iconic match-ups in tennis for World Tennis Day, including Andre Agassi vs. Pete Sampras and Novak Djokovic vs. Andy Murray. The growth of the World Tennis Day brand led to an increase in the number of countries involved in World Tennis Day to more than 90, continuing to promote tennis participation throughout the world.
