On the heels of the success of the 2009 event, women’s tennis once again returned to Madison Square Garden, broadcast live on ESPN in 2010, as the BNP Paribas Showdown featured 2010’s Grand Slam Champions competing for the Bille Jean King Cup.

With the same single elimination format as the 2009 event, 2010 U.S. Open Champion Kim Clijsters and former World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic faced off in the first semifinal, while Seven-time Grand Slam Champion Venus Williams and 2010 French Open Champion Svetlana Kuznetsova played in the second semifinal. Clijsters defeated Ivanovic 7-6 (2), while Williams beat Kuznetsova 6-4. In the final showdown, Williams took down Clijsters in a three-set battle, winning 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to take home the Billie Jean King Cup.

Tennis Night in America sustained its partnership with the BNP Paribas Showdown in 2010, as over 750 tennis clubs around the nation participated in Youth Registration Night thanks to the help of tennis icon Lindsay Davenport. Davenport joined the movement in an effort to encourage youth around the United States to sign up for their local tennis programs and become engaged with the sport.
